SPA has always been committed to the prevention of cardiovascular diseases through the marketing of drugs that act on the main risk factors (such as hypertension and dyslipidemia) and therapeutic options for heart failure and angina pectoris.

In Italy, cardiovascular disease is the main cause of morbidity, disability and mortality.

The term “cardiovascular pathologies” generally refers to diseases affecting the heart (myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, heart failure etc.) and blood vessels (carotid stenosis), with frequent repercussions on other organs such as the brain (stroke), kidneys and locomotor system (peripheral arterial obliterans).

Cardiovascular diseases affect both sexes, with onset at different ages.

SPA’s commitment in the cardiovascular field has focused on drug development and scientific research through the support of studies in collaboration with authoritative Research Centres, University Centres and Scientific Societies.

PREVENTION

Cardiovascular diseases are mostly preventable through the analysis of non-modifiable risk factors (age, gender and familiarity) and modifiable risk factors, (hypertension, diabetes, obesity, dyslipidemias such as hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia). On the latter it is possible to intervene with the use of effective and safe drugs for the patient, capable of controlling and slowing the evolution towards more complex pathologies.

To prevent the onset of diabetes, dyslipidemia, obesity and hypertension, it is important to combine drug treatment with a proper lifestyle including balanced nutrition, reduced alcohol consumption, abolition of smoking and constant targeted physical activity.
